DB2

What is DB2?

DB2 is a relational database management system (RDMS) from IBM. It provides organisations of various sizes with a data platform for transactions, analytical operations and for continuous availability of data. DB2 is thus designed to store, analyse and retrieve data efficiently. The DB2 product is enhanced by support for object-oriented functions and non-relational structures with XML.

DB2 for IBM i

The DB2 for i database provides numerous functions and features such as triggers, stored procedures and dynamic bitmap indexing that are suitable for a variety of application types. These applications range from traditional host-based applications to client/server solutions and business intelligence applications.

To access or query database content from a DB2, an interactive interface is required. This is provided, for example, by the *DB2MAPS and *DB2EXPORT modules of the i‑effect® Solution Suite.

*DB2EXPORT: enables direct conversion of the DB2 database into XML, XLSX, XLS, CSV, HTML and TXT via push technology. The database can be queried via a defined file name, via query or SQL.

*DB2MAPS: makes it possible to transfer the data into an individual structure or formatting of an Excel or SML file during export. In addition to the visual appearance, numeric or character fields (e.g. date, time, currency) can also be individually defined and formatted.
