With menten's own extensions for compression, Independent Auxiliary Storage Pool (iASP), signature and encryption, i‑effect® users can further enhance their EDI processes. The Zip module allows you to compress data natively on IBM i - just as you know it from the PC environment with the common Zip programs. The iASP capability of i‑effect® ensures the operation of business-critical systems through high availability and disaster recovery. Signature and encryption guarantee the integrity of transmitted data and protect against unauthorized access.

Compressing data saves storage space and optimizes data transfer rates. Compressing, packing, unpacking and zipping files simultaneously facilitates their management, whether for transfer, archiving or backup.

menten GmbH offers i‑effect® *ZIP, a native compression software for IBM Power Systems, which reduces the data to up to ten percent of its original volume. This means 90 percent more storage space! i‑effect® *ZIP allows file sizes of more than 4 GB and is therefore ideal for hard disk backups. All special features of IBM Power Systems are integrated in the module: Packing and unpacking spool files, backup files and physical files. i‑effect® *ZIP supports all CCSID, converts between ASCII and EBCDIC and is compatible with the most common formats WinZip and GZip, BZip2, XZ and LZMA, which are available on many platforms (Windows, DOS, Unix, VMS, etc.). The ZIP files can thus be distributed across platforms.

With functions for creating, adding, deleting and extracting ZIP archive contents, the i‑effect® extension is 100 percent compatible with other archive programs. It therefore ideally supports the exchange of data between different systems and platforms.

Unpacking on the Receiver Side, no problem with i‑effect®!

With i‑effect® *ZIP the user can create self-extracting archives in.EXE format, so that he does not need his own compression program to open the file. The functions for unpacking are included free of charge in the extension, i.e. i‑effect® can be installed on the receiver side without a license key to extract ZIP archives received there. This facilitates the transfer, backup, restore and space-saving distribution of IBM Power Systems spool and backup files to external or new systems.

*IASP - High Availability Connection

i‑effect® is iASP (independent auxiliary storage pool) capable for easy switching between two connected storage media. With the corresponding iASP enablement module, an i‑effect® installation on IBM Power Systems or IBM BladeCenter (PowerBlade) with configured iASP can be used. The iASP-enabled objects of the application are automatically placed in the iASP selected by the user during installation and can thus be used, for example, to set up an HA infrastructure (High Availability). Together with XSM (cross-site mirroring), IBM's data replication solution, data replication functions can be integrated across multiple systems. XSM ensures that two identical copies of an independent disk pool (iASP) are kept in two different locations to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.

Encryption on IBM i

Companies in electronic business transactions secure themselves with data protection and data backup. In B2B business processes, the focus is on the integrity of business transactions. Companies with inadequate security concepts run the risk of falling into a cost trap with serious consequences due to internal or external data misuse.

Encryption is one of the central security techniques. For this purpose menten has created the i‑effect® extension *CRYPT - a solution integrated in the company's own workflow to encrypt and sign sensitive business data directly on the IBM Power Systems, both for local storage and for external distribution. i‑effect® *CRYPT encrypts ZIP archives in combination with the compression module *ZIP according to AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), the leading cryptosystem. The encrypted data can be decrypted and processed with any AES-compatible application across platforms.

By exchanging certificates, the sender can encrypt and the receiver can decrypt. This is done by the i‑effect® module *OCSP. The Online Certificate Status Protocol provides information about the status of a certificate used to encrypt or attach a signature. It queries the status of the certificate via a secure Internet connection to a trust center. With positive feedback i‑effect® *OCSP verifies the signature of the received data and creates a verification report, attaches it to the signed document and forwards it to the workflow. If a certificate has expired or been revoked, an error report is created and forwarded to manual processing.

Encryption is particularly important in business communication in e-mail traffic. When sending via the AS2 protocol, security technologies such as encryption and signature are already integrated.

Signature on IBM i

If encryption means that you can no longer see the contents of a file, the signature guarantees the recipient that the file has remained intact during transport. The qualified electronic signature file replaces the personal signature in accordance with the German Signature Act (SigG) and is mainly used in electronic invoicing. The i‑effect® extension *SIGG applies a qualified electronic signature generated in the card reader to the invoice (or any other documents). Thus i‑effect® signs the document for e-mail transmission in PDF format and as EDIFACT message type INVOIC. The automated mass signing process is particularly suitable for sending high invoice volumes. The signing operations run server-based on IBM Power Systems.
